The first step to making more money with your email list

Hi Reader,

Last week, I asked you to sit with a question: Are the right people still on your list for where your business is today?

This week, we're doing something about it.

Whether your list has drifted from your business or you've just gone quiet, the first step is the same.

Show up. Say something. See who's still there.

Here's how to know which situation you're in:

Scenario 1: Your business has evolved, but your list hasn't caught up.

Maybe you started with a freebie that no longer represents what you do. Or your ideal client looks completely different today than when you built your list.

If that's you, it's time to reintroduce yourself.

Tell them what you're focused on now, what's coming, and give them the choice to stay. No hard feelings if they don't. The people who stay are your people.

Scenario 2: The right people are on your list, but you've gone quiet.

You haven't done anything wrong. Life happens. Business gets busy.

But your subscribers have gone cold because you have.

The fix isn't complicated.

It's a simple check-in. Is this content still valuable to you? That's it. No big announcement, no over-explaining the absence. Just a genuine nudge to see who's still interested.

Scenario 3: Your list is aligned, and you've been showing up... but you never make an ask.

This one is more common than you think.

You've been generous with value, but you've never invited anyone to work with you. That's a different email entirely, and I'll help you with that one personally.

Just hit reply, and I'll send you my hand-raiser framework.

For scenarios one and two, I built something that makes this easier.

Babs — my Cold List Whisperer GPT — writes re-engagement emails for exactly these situations. She's free to use, and she's good at it. You can find her here.

One tip if you haven't emailed in a while — start with a smaller segment of your most engaged subscribers first, the people that opened when you were emailing. It warms up your sending reputation and keeps you out of the spam folder.

This week's action:

Figure out which scenario you're in.

Then write the email. Use Babs as a starting point, or just write something simple and honest.

The goal is to show up and see who raises their hand.

Only you can test this with your own list.

Are you speaking to the right people? Are you set up for deliverability? Is your audience ready for what you're offering right now? Those questions matter more than anything else.

See you next Tuesday.

To your email marketing success,

Kathy

P.S. Next week we're talking about how to attract the right new people to your list while staying connected to the ones already there. It's the natural next step after re-engagement, and it's more straightforward than you might think.

Thinking, “Kathy, I’m ready to take action with my emails...I just need a smart place to start”...
